1st Post Perks of Being a Wallflower

In "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky the teenagers have been presented early in the book in a stereotypical way. Teenagers at the main character Charlie's school have been drinking smoking and having sex. These three things are used commonly to present teenagers in a "bad" way. There haven't been teenagers not represented that way yet, but based on what I saw in the movie of this book there will soon be teenagers who are represented in a "good" way. Charlie originally did not have any friends and seemed to not speak, I left off after he had just started to talk to Patrick and Sam. I found their encounter interesting. Charlie befriended these two very nice people who just happen to smoke. This bit of information shows that the "bad" things teenagers do don't necessarily make them bad people. I predict that this book will continue to present readers very interesting ideas relating to the teenagers of our day.
So far I find the theme in this book confusing because no real issue has been presented in Charlie's life. One possible theme or central idea that might appear is how to cope with loneliness. Charlie seems to be a very socially awkward person and one that is somewhat naive. Hopefully Patrick and Sam will become people who love and care for Charlie and people who Charlie can love and care for. Although I have not gotten far in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" I bet there are many lessons I can learn from it.
